It is not just local residents that have a right to object, but anyone with an interest in protecting historic and/or natural environments, wherever they are.

Carrick Council failed to include the EA02 Planning Application Notice in its last week's Falmouth Packet press advertisement. This is the one for the four pier and car park developement. There is also a much less contentious LB02 application, which was included.
Carrick's on-site Public announcement includes the LB02 Application number in the usual prominent bold caps format, close to the top of the Building of Special Architetural or Historical Interest Notice, whereas the EA02 Notice of Application for Planning Permission, is relegated as the final item in small print, at the bottom right-hand corner of the sheet.
The EA02 Notice lists Carrick's e-mail contact address under dev-control@carrick.gov.uk, whilst the LB02 Notice lists it as tmarsh@carrick.gov.uk.
Despite these errors and apparent anomalies, to avoid the possibility of any misunderstanding, Carrick have agreed to treat all public and interested party representations referring to only the LB02 number, as if they had been written including also the EA02 number, which is the main Application specifically relating to the construction of the proposed new development.
There is to be a public showing of the plans for this development on Tuesday 9th December from 1200 to 1900, at the Greenbank Hotel. If you were able to come and see these it would be very helpful.
The previous showing of an earlier version of these plans resulted in the developers saying that there were 3 forms with negative comments and 9 with positive – hence 3:1 in favour. What actually happened was that the majority who disliked the plans - which were put forward as not finalised – withheld their comments waiting for the final version.
Unfortunately the developers were thus able to say that local opinion was favourable in their submission to the Council. If you are able to attend this showing of the current version of the plans please do make your views known. There should be forms given out to register your opinions.

Falmouth Town Council Special Meeting - Thursday 18th Dec at 6:30 pm
There is to be a special meeting of the Falmouth Town Council at the Municipal Buildings, The Moor, Falmouth, at 6:30 pm on Thursday 18th December.
Prior to the meeting, from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm, the developers will to present their case to the Councillors, in private.
The public may speak from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm, and may then remain to hear the Councillors discussions, but members of the public may not speak after 7:00 pm.
There are two 3-minute slots after 7:00 pm in the meeting itself, for nominated speakers, and the Save our Foreshores group is arranging to have two people use these slots. To be taken seriously, it is important that we present calm, reasoned argument in a professional way.

The planning application traffic drawings show the need for the loss of some 200 metres of Stratton Terrace public parking (over 30 cars)lost for access/ egress for the hotel's benefit for hotel guests and service vehicles to access or egress the new development. This is not mentioned in any of the planning application documents.
The applicant includes in their environmental statement the following quote. 'It is considered that the need for the proposed development and the economic benefits are material considerations that on balance outweigh ANY other considerations'

Falmouth Town Council Special Meeting - Thursday 18th December
There was a special meeting of the Falmouth Town Council planning committee on Thursday 18th December. Over 50 members of the public from Falmouth and Flushing attended. There were only 5 planning committee members in attandance and one of those declared an interest and therefore absented himself from the actual meeting and the voting.
Prior to the meeting, from 6:00 pm to 6:30 pm, the developers presented their case to the Councillors, in private. From 6:30 to 7:00 pm the public were able to give their views, and then the meeting itself commenced, during which two nominated speakers from our group were able to address the Councillors briefly.
The meeting itself was quite short. Councillor Varney proposed that as they had not yet had various reports from bodies who are being consulted, eg. the Highways Dept., that the committee defer the decision to a later meeting. No date was given for this meeting.
The decision to defer was not popular with those who attended and many wondered why the Town Council had gone ahead with it. In conversation after the meeting with Councillors, we were told that if the meeting had not been held at all, Carrick Council planners would have assumed the Town Council planning committee had no objections.
We will keep you informed of what happens next. As this matter is still in abeyance, keep your letters and emails coming in to Town and County Councils - Carrick Council will still accept submissions up to Christmas, even though the official deadline is past.
